Volunteering

Important visa and entry information for your volunteer programme

Visas

When travelling to Thailand to take part on a registered volunteering placement, the purpose of your visit to Thailand is as an Eco-tourist. Please do not refer to work or volunteering when applying, as this can cause delays. We do not support applications for volunteer visas (Non Immigrant), however we can confirm the duration of residence, if needed.

Your visa options are dependent on your planned length of stay:

  1. Visa on Arrival (also known as a visa exemption stamp) –Nationals of countries which are on Thailand’s Tourist Visa Exemption list or have bilateral agreements on visa exemption with Thailand will be permitted to stay for a period of not exceeding 15, 60, or 90 days (the actual period depends on your nationality)
  2. Tourist Visa (shown below) - If you are planning to stay in Thailand for longer than 30 days, then it’s recommended to obtain a 60 day visa prior to your arrival

E-Visa

The Kingdom of Thailand now has an E-Visa Stickerless Application process and any Foreign national, who wishes to apply for a Thai visa must apply and submit his/her application through the new online e-Visa platform at http://thaievisa.go.th

Please note that it is no longer required for applicants to submit his/her passport and original supporting documents in person or by post.

All payments are non-refundable, therefore please double check all information and especially spelling of names, e-mails and passport numbers since the Embassy would not be able to edit once you have made payments.

All applicants will have to take responsibility for any error made on information submitted in the e-Visa application, which the Embassy will reject. As mentioned, applications are non-refundable, and applicants will have to submit a new application. So please double check all your information and spelling, to save time and money.

After the e-Visa application has been approved, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to applicants. Therefore, please double check the e-mail account you submitted, to avoid any error and delay in processing your visa. You are advised to print a copy of the confirmation e-mail to present to the airline and for Thai immigration officials to check on arrival.

The Single Entry Visa is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. You must enter Thailand within the validity of visa. Please do not confuse this date with your date of entry or expected last day you can stay in Thailand

Travellers should carefully check the immigration stamps in their passports regarding the exact length of stay to ensure that they do not overstay their visa.  Penalty for overstay is a fine of 500 baht per day and possibly blacklisted from entering Thailand for an extended period (up to 10 years).
